By utilizing a current-limited PFM control scheme, these regulators provide the best of both worlds by incorporating the benefits of traditional PFM and PWM converters. This unique approach allows the MAX764/MAX765/MAX766 to operate with high efficiency at heavy loads, similar to PWM converters, while maintaining a low supply current of less than 120µA, far below the consumption of PWM devices
