1. High voltage constant current mode

And so, the greater the power consumption, the greater the damage to the battery.


2. Low voltage high current mode

3. High voltage, high current mode


This way increases the current and voltage simultaneously, so by the formula P = UI, we know that this way is the best way to increase power, but increasing the voltage simultaneously will generate more heat. Hence, more energy is consumed, and the voltage and current are not unlimited arbitrarily increase.

Several common fast-charging solutions on the market

1. Qualcomm Quick Charge3.0


Late last year, Qualcomm released a new generation of fast charging technology: Quick Charge3.0, using the best voltage intelligent negotiation algorithm to achieve the best power transfer at any moment and maximize efficiency. It can charge a typical phone from zero to 80 per cent in 35 minutes.


Quick Charge 3.0 offers the flexibility to choose from 3.6V to 20V in 200mV increments. This will allow the phone to get just the right voltage for the desired charging current, thus minimizing power loss, increasing charging efficiency and improving thermal performance.


2. MediaTek Pump Express 3.0


MediaTek has launched a new generation of Pump Express 3.0 fast technology. PE 3.0 fast charging solution can charge a smartphone's battery from zero to 70% in just 20 minutes. PE 3.0 supports bi-directional communication and has more than 20 built-in safety-related device protection mechanisms, making it an extremely safe charging solution.


In addition, Pump Express 3.0 is the world's first fast charging solution that uses the USB Type-C port, which can bypass the phone charging circuit and have the current flow directly into the battery.


3. OPPO VOOC technology


Unlike the high voltage and high current solution ideas of the above two chip manufacturers, VOOC flash charging is a typical representative of low voltage and high current fast charging solutions. Ensuring the charging speed simultaneously reduces the adapter and the phone's heating conditions. Compared to traditional over-current protection, individually customized parts greatly enhance safety.

VOOC flash charging from the adapter interface to the phone inside creates a full-end type of fire protection to bring consumers a very high level of security. Regarding speed, VOOC flash charging also has an eye-catching performance. The current VOOC flash charging used by OPPO phones can be charged to about 75% of the power within 30 minutes, 1 hour basically can be full.

OPPO has previously demonstrated VOOC super flash charging technology, which is even more powerful and takes only 15 minutes to fill a 2500mAh battery. There are reports that the technology may be applied to the new OPPO Find 9, which is worth looking forward to.
